Define the furnace, glass process and exact zone
Do not request one silica brick grade for an entire glass furnace. The crown, suspended or upper walls, ports, regenerators and glass-contact areas have different exposure, structural and contamination requirements.
State the furnace type, glass composition, campaign stage and precise lining position. Also identify whether the work is a new furnace, scheduled rebuild, partial replacement or repair so that the proposed brick package can be reviewed against the correct engineering basis.

Confirm the silica product route before comparing grades
Factory-supplied technical materials identify conventional BG-95/BG-96 families, an LWG-99 calcium-free route and FS-97/FS-98/FS-99 zero-expansion families for glass-furnace review. These names are useful for technical discussion, but they are not universal substitutes and do not by themselves confirm current availability or contract performance.
Ask the manufacturer to identify the proposed product route, current grade and reasons for the selection. Require a current data sheet and a clear deviation list when the offer differs from the owner's or furnace designer's specification.

Specify measurable properties and named test methods
Silica chemistry alone does not define furnace suitability. Mineral conversion, apparent porosity, density, hot-load behavior and thermal expansion can affect dimensional stability, joints and heat-up response.
List only properties required by the governing standard or furnace engineering specification. State units, test methods, specimen conditions, sampling and acceptance limits, and keep guaranteed contract values separate from historical brochure or typical reference data.

Control crown geometry, joints and heat-up together
For a silica crown or superstructure package, material approval and dimensional approval belong together. Crown radius, span, special shapes, joints, mortar, expansion allowance and structural support must follow the controlled furnace design.
Issue the latest drawings and shape schedule with the RFQ. Define critical dimensions, tolerance methods, templates or pre-assembly hold points, and make the approved heat-up procedure part of the project documentation rather than assuming a generic schedule.

Protect glass quality and interface compatibility
A glass-furnace lining decision must consider possible stones, inclusions, spalling and vapor interaction as well as refractory life. A product suitable for a non-contact superstructure zone should not be presented as a glass-contact material without a separate technical review.
Identify adjacent refractory grades, interfaces, vapor or alkali exposure, current defects and the owner's acceptance criteria. Ask for relevant evidence for the proposed zone, while keeping historical references separate from guarantees for the supplied lot.

Link inspection records to the delivered package
Define batch identification, sampling, laboratory tests, visual and dimensional checks, witness points and retest rules before production. Every certificate should identify the contracted manufacturer, exact grade, batch, test method, result and applicable limit.
For drawing-based crown packages, connect inspection records to brick marks, pallet numbers and the bill of materials. Reference documents for a similar grade or another production period are not batch evidence for the goods being shipped.

A complete first inquiry lets suppliers quote the same technical and commercial scope. Submit the furnace information, approved technical basis, drawings, quantities, inspection requirements and delivery sequence together.
If a grade or property is not yet confirmed, mark it for technical review instead of inserting an assumed figure. Ask each bidder to state exclusions and deviations clearly before comparison.
