Start with the application and grade, not one headline number
The supplied factory library contains historical tables for coke-oven and glass-furnace silica products. Those tables are valuable for screening and technical discussion, but they cover different product routes, production periods and duties.
Identify the furnace, exact zone, proposed current grade and governing standard before comparing values. A table for a glass-furnace crown is not automatically a purchase basis for a coke-oven heating wall.

Read chemistry together with flux and mineral conversion
SiO2 content identifies the principal chemistry, while iron oxide, alumina, alkalis and other fluxing constituents may matter to hot behavior and the process environment. Chemistry alone does not show whether the fired mineral conversion is appropriate.
For silica products, true density, residual quartz or named mineral-phase evidence may be specified as indicators of conversion. Require the exact test method and acceptance limit when these fields are contract requirements.

Use porosity, bulk density and strength on equivalent test bases
Apparent porosity describes accessible pore volume under the named method, while bulk density relates mass to bulk volume. Cold crushing strength measures room-temperature compressive behavior of a prepared specimen; it is not a direct service-life prediction.
Compare these properties only when units, specimen preparation and methods are equivalent. Higher density or cold strength does not automatically mean better thermal-shock behavior or better suitability for every furnace zone.

Treat hot-load and thermal fields as application evidence
Refractoriness under load or deformation-under-load data helps describe behavior under a defined stress and heating procedure. Thermal conductivity, expansion and thermal-shock fields answer different questions and cannot be substituted for one another.
For coke ovens, heat transfer and geometry may receive special attention. For glass-furnace crowns, dimensional stability, impurities, expansion behavior and furnace-specific exposure must be reviewed together.

Convert the comparison into a controlled RFQ
Attach the relevant historical table as a reference, then ask the proposed manufacturer to issue a current data sheet and identify every deviation. The purchase specification should state which values are guaranteed, which are informational and which documents must accompany the shipment.
Link the approved properties to drawings, dimensional inspection, batch identification, pallet marks and certificates. This prevents an apparently strong data table from being separated from the actual goods supplied.
