Can insulating castable replace dense castable?+

Not automatically. Insulating grades generally trade mechanical and wear resistance for lower density and heat transfer.

Can it be used directly on the hot face?+

Only in applications where temperature, velocity, abrasion, chemistry and mechanical exposure are suitable for the selected grade.

What information helps thermal selection?+

Provide layer construction, temperatures, thickness limits, shell-temperature target and surrounding operating conditions.
